*** IF the Shoe Fits ***

The key to finding the right walking shoe is getting the right fit.

The best shoe is one that takes into consideration your pace, stride,

weight, type of walking, and your foot size. A walking shoe should be

a size to a size and one half larger than your dress shoes, since your

feet tend to swell while walking. Use the socks you plan to wear

walking when shopping for shoes. The shoes should feel comfortable

from the moment you put them on your feet. Invest in the right shoes

to prevent injury and keep you walking in comfort.

Our Body's Essential Need

Soft Drinks or Water?
What does our body need at the end of a workout?

You just finished an hour-long aerobic workout. You are sweaty, tired, and need an energy lift. Should you grab a sports drink to replace the nutrients lost during your workout? Often the answer is no. For workouts lasting less than 60-90 minutes, simple fluid replacement is usually your goal. However, it's important to drink moderate amounts of water before, during, and after exercise. Then choose nutrient-rich, post-workout meals to keep your body in balance.

Lift Weights to go the Extra Mile

Researchers at the University of Florida found that when people gain

strength by weight lifting, the gains also improve aerobic capacity.

This is also true for older adults. Even moderate weight lifting can

improve your heart and lungs.

"I just love when people say I can’t do something... because all my life people said I wasn’t going to make it." -- Ted Turner

Hot Cocoa vs Green Tea

Research shows that mixing up your own cup of hot cocoa using one tablespoon pure cocoa powder, one cup of non-fat hot milk and a natural sugar substitute such as stevia can provide more beneficial antioxidants than green tea. Unfortunately, a few more calories too.

Lycopene - The Best Sauce

Scientific study concludes that lycopene when combined with the other natural chemicals found in tomatoes is more effective in preventing prostate cancer than taking a lycopene supplement. In other words, eat cooked tomatoes or processed tomatoes in the form of juice, sauce, or paste, rather than a lycopene pill.

Water Works for Weight Loss

Nothing quells the appetite like water, lots and lots of water. Start out with two quart bottles in the morning and carry one with you to work or wherever you go. If you like, divvy up the 64 ounces of water into eight (8-ounce) bottles or four pint (16-ounce) bottles to carry around with you all day. Freeze half of them the night before and they will last all day, even in a hot car. Keep some unfrozen so they will be ready to drink immediately.

Yes. You will have to make more frequent bathroom trips, but it is worth it. Drink your 64 ounces of water before dinner, if possible, so you're not up half the night going to the bathroom.

Water not only fills you up and lessens your appetite, it prevents those "hungry horrors" we all encounter when our blood sugar drops and we reach for cookies, candy, ice cream, fries or other high-calorie treats. Water also flushes out the system, rids the body of bloat and toxins and rosies up the complexion. Now, start splashing.
