Class of 2009: Ten Students
Frank McNally
#8 of 10

"The joy is in the process; there is no finished product, and there is no perfection." Whether it is in research, sports, or music, Frank has used this mantra to find fulfillment in life and to generate nearly perfect outcomes. As one of eight high school students in the Earthwatch Institute's Student Challenge Awards Program, he was able to deepen his passion for physics while studying "Transient Phenomena in Astrophysics" at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. A leader in athletics as well as in the classroom, he earned five varsity letters in cross-country and track and served as a captain of the cross-country team. Equally committed to music, he sees no end to the enjoyment that he gets from practicing and playing the alto saxophone. Frank looks forward to continuing his participation in music, running, and Ultimate Frisbee at Carleton, and he plans to major in physics.
