Class of 2009: Ten Students
Sara Lopez
#9 of 10

"What I remember most of that night were the strangers... they were all looking at my paintings... I realized that the whole show was not about me... it was about the work." As a child, Sara dreamed of becoming an artist, coming to the United States, and getting a "truly good education." At the age of 16, she satisfied her first dream when she had her first professional solo art gallery exhibition in Uruapan, Mexico, displaying and selling dozens of her oil-on-canvas works. Shortly thereafter, and with no English language experience, she moved to Uniontown to attend high school and to live with distant relatives. Now two years later, she is fluent in English (and becoming fluent in French), expanding her art repertoire into drawing, and has had her second professional gallery exhibition in Canton, Ohio. She is undecided about her major.
