    The Admissions Office:
Selective colleges like Carleton are looking for well-rounded students;. students who are not purely focused on academics but also pursue a number of interests outside of their course work. Quantity is a poor way to evaluate students’ extracurricular interests. At Carleton, we evaluate the qualitative involvement of students’ extracurriculars rather than the pure number of activities that they are involved in. As a result, we recommend that students find activities that they are passionate about, get involved with them, stay involved with them and assume leadership roles in them. We are not impressed with students who have joined many groups but have no significant involvement or leadership in any of them.
