What kind of advice/counseling does Carleton offer students who plan to apply to medical schools?
-
The Admissions Office:Carleton does offer a Pre-Medical program. This program is not a major. Because Carleton is a liberal arts college and not a pre-professional school, Carleton students select whatever major they desire, regardless of career goals. One can be an Art History or Economics major and still go on to medical school, or be a biology major and become an architect.
The pre-med program exists as a support system, made up of a Health Professions Advisor and Pre-Med Committee who keep interested students informed, so that they know which courses are required for medical school, which are recommended, and what other activities might serve as beneficial preparation. The committee also writes letters of recommendation when the time comes to apply to schools.
