    Shakespeare and Soap

    April 26, 2009

Well, I didn't write any plays this week. But Shakespeare wrote some plays many thousands of weeks ago, and it was his birthday (we think) Thursday, and there was a massive party for him.

A Description of My Recent Musical Exploits

    April 23, 2009

So, by now you probably know that I'm really into making music, but I am also a huge fan of finding new music and going to music concerts!!  And I've had a blessedly music filled week or so!  Here are a few of the highlights:

Just Another Weekend (But Not Really)

    April 21, 2009

I realized I don't often just talk about what I did on the weekend, which is always a question that comes up on tours.  Of course, each weekend is different, and this weekend was a little different, too, since we had the second Accepted Student Days this weekend...MORE

    The 24-Hour Show

    April 20, 2009

The 24-Hour Show is another crazy Carleton Tradition/Event. It is not, as you might think, a show that lasts for 24 hours, but is instead a show that is planned, scripted, directed, practiced, and finally performed in a 24-hour period. With my affinity for writing silly plays, I naturally volunteered/was conscripted for this and ended up staying up all night Friday collaborating on a detective vs. mad scientist story, which, later that day and after a long nap, I saw brilliantly staged, along with three masterpieces written by other playwrights and directed and performed by other teams, in front of the largest audience that has ever witnessed one of my plays. It was pretty awesome.

    No Homework, Just Dancing

    April 19, 2009

Guess what I did today (along with about 200 other Carleton students)?  Danced for 4 hours.  And watched other people dance.  Today was the first Ebony showing, so everyone in Ebony shows the dances they've been working on for the last 3 weeks and we all get to watch the dances we aren't in.  Of course, with 200 dancers and over 20 dancers this takes a while...MORE

In Which I Address A Question Posed on Friday

    April 14, 2009

First of all, this was an amazing weekend - the Drag Show was absolutely crazy, in an awesome way, the gender movie night, where Normal was shown seemed to go really well, Convo was really amazing and the Admissions Panel and Drag Panel were each really exciting.  There's a new group that's talking about body positivity that's great too.  All in all, a good weekend.  In light of the Admissions Panel, I want to address a question that came up:

How do you deal with being plopped in the middle of nowhere, in a relatively homogeneous place, far from any major cultural centers?

    Who Is Kate Malecek?

    April 14, 2009

Anyone walking anywhere between Sayles and the Library (and let's be honest that's basically everyone on campus) today is bound to know that today is Kate Malecek's birthday.  Who is Kate Malecek?  I don't know, but last night her friends went to town on the sidewalks with some chalk and now the whole campus knows...MORE
