No Homework, Just Dancing

April 19, 2009 at 8:53 pm

Guess what I did today (along with about 200 other Carleton students)?  Danced for 4 hours.  And watched other people dance.  Today was the first Ebony showing, so everyone in Ebony shows the dances they've been working on for the last 3 weeks and we all get to watch the dances we aren't in.  Of course, with 200 dancers and over 20 dancers this takes a while, so we were watching each other for a long time.  And we didn't really have any breaks (except for candy breaks).

I don't know whether or not I mentioned this before, but I choreographed a dance this term with ex-student body president Pablo (he's not president anymore because he wanted more time for dancing...just kidding, his term ended).  We choreographed to one of our favorite pop songs, "Break The Ice" by Britney Spears.  Now besides doing a skit in my high school talent show called "The Shepaug Mens' Dance Team," I have no real background in dance.  Pablo and I have both danced in a few Ebony shows, but we didn't come into college expecting to be choreographing upwards of 40 people in one dance.  But that's what we're doing.  And thanks to a little help from my mom, there is some ACTUAL dancing in it, not just "booty shaking".

We had our last rehearsal this afternoon before the big Ebony showing, but here are a few pictures I took at another rehearsal.  Maybe someone will film the final performance and I can post a link.  We'll see...

Ebony Rehearsal 2

Ebony Rehearsal 3

Ebony Rehearsal 4

Ebony Rehearsal 5

Ebony Rehearsal 6

And despite the title of this post I am doing homework.  I have a bunch of reading for tonight, but maybe I'll take a break to catch up on The Office...

Hey, I saw you with Exit 69 at the show for Accepted Student Days this weekend. Great job - I really enjoyed the performance (I thought about saying hello but I didn't want to be weird). How often do you guys practice? I'm hoping to join an A Cappella group once I get to Carleton in the fall, but after watching you guys I'm not sure I'm good enough to make it into one!

Not ex-president. Ex-Vice-President, much less prestigious.
