As I sat down to write this post, I was thinking about everything I have to do today, and then I realized my schedule was a pretty good demonstration of the variety of stuff your average Carleton student does. Here it is (keep in mind all my classes are Monday-Wednesday-Friday, so I have no classes today):
10 AM: Roll out of bed. Ablutions. Attempt not to wake roommate; probably fail. Hate him slightly for being able to sleep in.
10:25 AM: Sayles run for coffee and pastry.
10:30 AM: Meet partner to work on project for Social Welfare. We have to come up with a creative project that takes a stand on a welfare controversy, incorporating our own research and interviews with both a recipient and an administrator of welfare. We've decided to research college students on welfare (mostly things like food stamps), and our final project will be a "documentary" with Carleton students reading aloud people's posts from online forums (which, we found, are pretty vitriolic on the topic; there are repeated suggestions that a person can survive on Ramen noodles alone, for example). Our problem is that there are relatively few statistics about how many students are on welfare, so we still have to talk to our professor and the research librarians about where we can find those.
11:30 AM: Work. This post; uploading images of wartime art for the art gallery website.
2:30 PM: Voice lesson. I've been singing a French song based on a Victor Hugo poem. The song contains an absolutely ridiculous amount of melisma ("ri-i-i-i-e-e-e-e-e-ez tou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-jours!"), which is fun even if I don't always, you know, hit the notes.
3:00 PM: Meet movie people at PEPS to renew equipment, then head over to the CAMS media lab to look at the dailies (the ridiculously irreverent scene we shot last night in the Chapel).
WHENEVER WE GET DONE: Go with Alex to buy military-themed magazines and things to decorate the set for the evil dean's office (don't ask).
5 PM: Very early dinner, because we have to
6 PM: walk over to Olaf to see KARL ROVE speak. Wow. This should be interesting, whatever happens. Hopefully there will be no extreme heckling/tasers. I'm sort of amazed that I get the opportunity to see such an influential person for free, even if I do think he's influential in the same sort of way as Satan.
ABOUT 8:30 PM: Come back to campus; begin primary source analysis for medieval history, due tomorrow.
HOPEFULLY BEFORE 2 AM: Finish primary source analysis.
UNTIL 8:50 AM: Sleep, glorious sleep.
Also: Look! Photos from filming!

Our leading lady, Lily, and her fictional roommate doing the slate.

Putting a blanket over the window to make it look like night. (So far, I don't think we've filmed even one scene at the correct time of day. Also, we realized that in a scene where it's supposed to be winter, there is a huge green tree outside the window. Hopefully it'll slip by unnoticed...) Also note boom operator intensity.

Extras waiting in the lounge.

Russ and Sam, cameraman and boom operator, crammed into Alex's closet to film Lily at the door. These guys are awesome.

And I figure I should include a picture of myself, so here I am handing something to Russ from the big orange camera box.
I've been having so much fun with this movie, really. Wish me luck finishing everything that has to get done today!
