The Final Year Begins

That sounds ominous, doesn't it? I told some of my friends that I half-expected Senior Year to be like the last level of a video game: the Bald Spot replaced by a pit of hot lava, Scoville's turret firing laser cannons, the hardest classes I've taken at Carleton coming back to life in more powerful Final Boss Forms...

Fortunately none of that has happened yet. But I'm still cautious.

Eugene the Penguin

At Carleton, we pick apples in fall and make ice sculptures in winter. I'm not sure what idyllic seasonal activity we do in spring, but next term will probably refresh my memory.

Math in Psychology Class

Have you seen "Doodling in Math Class" by Vi Hart? If not, look it up this instant! (Or, you know, when you have time.) This isn't as cool as that, but it's still cool.

Ramblings about Classes

It's been a while since I've put a Turtle Fact in my post, so I went out, found a new one, and stuck it randomly into the following post. It's a pretty good one this time.

So, if nothing else, there is a really cool fact about turtles hidden somewhere in this post, and you should read it for that reason.

Chocolate Snails

In Hungarian, the words for "tomato" and "paradise" are the same. That has nothing to do with this post, but it's interesting, isn't it?

Another Short One

My computer clock tells me that it's about 8 PM at Carleton. That's not what time it is here...

So...

So! I got to Budapest, but my wifi antenna broke, so it was really hard to use the internet. That was okay, though, because I didn't really have time to use the internet, since I was busy getting used to the city and meeting all of the awesome people in this program. I learned some Hungarian for a few weeks, during which I got a bad cold and didn't feel like posting, and then I was going to post but I ended up going to Romania, so I didn't have time. In Romania I saw some beautiful cathedrals and went biking in the Carpathian Mountains, where I fell off my bike going downhill at high speed and fractured my collarbone into three pieces. I went to a really sketchy Romanian hospital and got a sling, and then got sent back to Budapest and then classes began. So far math has been wonderful, but very very time-consuming, and we're still not sure whether my shoulder will need surgery, and, if so, whether I need to return to America. So that's what happened.

Three Games I have Learned at Carleton

It's summer, but before I write my it's-summer-now-let's-review-the-year post, I'm going to publish the post I was working on when school got out. Here it is!
