The Old Has Gone

The New Has Come

Hello Everyone,

I thought I'd do a post before Christmas because I'll be really busy and celebrating on Christmas which is when my post would usually come out.  So here is my Christmas Eve Eve post.

Mist floating over the Chicago River

Well it's pretty crazy.  I feel like break is pretty much over now.  Weird, huh?  Part of it is that I'm leaving on the 27th to go to the Urbana Conference and then going straight to school after.  Urbana is a conference about Christian missions all over the world.  I'm going with a group from Carleton.  We'll learn about major issues facing the world today, like human trafficking, environmental problems, and poverty, which is good because I'm fairly ignorant about the world.  I'm also looking forward to good bonding time with my friends who I'm going with.  It's gonna be awesome.

There are some other things I'm really excited about as well.  Remember how I told you guys about Mac Melto?  Well his newest album is coming out soon (hopefully before I leave) and it's gonna be awesome.  He does trance and electronica and I wrote lyrics for one of his songs.  I also helped design the album art and name some of his songs!  It's gonna be a really awesome album!

Isn't this a super cool looking album?  Mac's brother, Martin, and I collaborated to make it.  Martin did all the intense painting stuff which we then collages together with a photo that I took of Mac.   I really like how it came out.  It's not really easy to collaborate like that but we did it somehow and it worked really well.  I think we were able to play to our strengths.  The album is going to be on iTunes and Amazon and stuff.  I'll let you know when you can buy it online!

What else am I excited about?  Game Maker 8 is out!  It's been several years since version 7 came out and it's really nice to have some new features.  Particularly nice are the enhanced sprite and code editors.  The code editor has a pop-up code completion feature and many other features that make programming so much nicer and less likely to be buggy.  Please, download this thing and use it!  Game Maker is the best!

GM8 also has a new logo.  There was recently a logo contest a while ago with a lot of annoying controversy surrounding it.  But in the end the new logo turned out nicely.

The old (and old-looking) logo used for as long as I've been using Game Maker

The new Game Maker 8 logo.  I like it, though the font isn't anything too interesting.  The cog with the G (and a pac-man-esque face hidden in it) is a nice little logo.

I was going to submit an entry but I was sort of busy because it was during school last term and the deadline sort of just slipped by,  This is what I had but for some reason didn't submit.  It's sort of unfinished but I'm not that good at fancy touches anyway.  What I like about my logo is the use of the classic "hammer and ball" but in a different way (the hammer makes the G).  I also made the font from scratch.

So there you have it.  A lot of new stuff to be excited about!  I even have a new term starting at Carleton!  I hope everything's going well with all of you.  I'll leave you with a funny picture from today:

A note from my little brother.  Nintendo is corrupting our youth!!

Until next time.

Peace (on earth),
