Hey guys, we just beat Olaf!

WHAT a weekend.

1. Screw your roommate on Friday

Every year, on a predetermined Friday of fall term, scores of people looking for true love (or just an awkward Friday night) flood into Sayles looking for the blind date that their roommates have previously set up for them. For the past three weeks people everywhere have been scrambling to find the best (or worst, depending on the kind of roommate you are) date for their roommates for a time-honored tradition called "Screw Dates". Neither dater in the pair knows who the other is, but the morning of Screw Dates, everyone involved gets a slip of paper in their mailbox  letting them know who they are looking for-- ex) You are The Beauty looking for The Beast, or You are Chutes looking for Ladders. Once you find your other half, VOILA! An instant date for Friday night. There are always events planned for that night, so if you find yourself really getting along with your date, maybe you'd like to go to a Sayles dance! If not, maybe you'd like to sit quietly next to each other at a SUMO movie. I had a rugby game on Saturday so I didn't participate in the festivities this year, but I did go watch everyone get paired up at Sayles with my roommates. It's always entertaining. Which brings me to...

 2. WE BEAT ST OLAF

In my most anticipated rugby game of the year, the Carleton Women's Rugby team soundly trounced St. Olaf on Saturday.  It was a hard game and we all got a little beat up, but we fought hard until the very end and the victory was SO worth it. I got to play my favorite position, and my mom came to see me play! It was also the last game of the season, so it's a little bittersweet that the season is over. But going out on a win over St. Olaf? Nothing better.

3. Halloween

On of my favorite holidays at Carleton (mostly because it's one of the only holidays we spend here, but also because Carls do Halloween right). There's always a Halloween concert in the Chapel where the orchestra plays really good music, which is immediately followed by a costume contest. There's an award for both group costumes and individual costumes, and people come up with some pretty creative stuff. This year, Brown V The Board of Education won the group contest, and a SWA stall won the individual contest (A SWA stall is a stall in all the bathrooms in which Student Wellness Advisers post information about things like how to avoid the Swine Flu and why getting adequate amounts of sleep makes you less stressed). It was awesome, but unfortunately I don't have pictures because I didn't have my camera that night. I'll try to find someone who got some good shots and put them up soon.

4. Behavioral Neuroscience

Now normally I wouldn't get all that excited about studying for a big exam, but I found a new study spot near my classroom that I found quite interesting. My neuro class is in the Studio Art building, I still don't get why, but it does make for a more entertaining aesthetic when you're studying. This corner is near the entrance, is well-lit with some natural light, has an amazing view, and has sweet art on the walls to distract me when I want.

Boliou<-- this art reminds me of my Politics of Contemporary China class. So really, it's a win for all types of studying.  I've also found that  listening to songs from Glee on Youtube also helps my productivity. Just sayin.

Also, I got to see the rat that I performed stereotaxic  brain surgery on last week. I'm glad to report that Pinky is doing well and the tube sticking out of his head looks very funny. They all look like alien rats, running around together in their cage with little bubbles and tubes on their heads. "Take us to your leader, we come for cheeeese!!!"
