Last week, the Carleton new Food Truth club hosted its first large event. The club invited students, professors, student farm workers, dining hall workers, Bon Appetit chefs, local farmers, businesspeople and community members to take part in a Real Food Forum. I ate yummy hummus wraps, free-range salmon lollypops, drank fair trade coffee and brainstormed a list of why Carleton is a pretty darn awesome place to be eating food.

This weekend, I learned that CANOE house, which has been a staple of the Carleton outdoor enthusiast community for 25 years and which I called home for four terms, was denied interest house status next year. In this post, I reflect on my experiences as a member of the house and explain why I believe CANOE is integral to the Carleton community.
