Just a quick "hello" from Northfield, where it's a beautiful, sunny day, despite the fact that it's hovering around 0° ("great, if you're a penguin!" says my weather-sensitive friend). I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things, so I'll post more later, but here's a "cheers" from CANOE house!
Hi! My name is Marlena and I'm a senior biology major and women and gender studies concentrator from Evergreen, Colorado. I play forward on the Women's Varsity Soccer, and I'm a cutter for Syzygy, one of the Women's Ultimate Frisbee teams. This term, I'm taking Genetics and Metalsmithing. I'm also facilitating a non-for-credit class called FemSex. Deciding on a major wasn't easy for me; I was toying with the idea of majoring in Political Science or American Studies or Women and Gender Studies, but chose Biology at the eleventh hour. For my Sophomore and Junior years, I lived in CANOE (Carleton Association for Nature and Outdoor Enthusiasts) House with twelve wonderful, adventurous housemates. This year, I'm living in a townhouse with three lovely housemates. I've studied abroad twice - once my Junior winter and one my Senior winter. Last year, I studied marine biology in Australia and this year I studied drawing and printmaking in the Cook Islands, New Zealand and Australia. The two most useful things I brought to Carleton are an electric tea kettle and my bike, who I fondly call Kennedy. I found her through Craigslist and picked her up in Minneapolis on the way to school. She's a 1970's Schwinn Suburban and the brakes squeak so loudly they double as a horn. I love photography, so on this blog I'll be trying to document some of Carleton life through pictures.
