My name is Shantrice King and I’m a RA on 7th Watson this year. I am a sophomore from Bronx, New York and an intended Women and Gender Studies major as well as an African/African American Studies concentrator. When I’m not studying hard after classes, I write for the school newspaper (The Carletonian), serve as President for Coalition of Women of Color, and I am also the program director of a rising volunteer program that pairs women of color college students with high school girls of color in order to publish a magazine about various topics once a term. This summer I worked in upstate New York as camp counselor at an all girls camp geared toward building the self-esteem and writing capabilities of inner-city girls. As a super amazing RA, it’s my duty to make the transition into life at Carleton for first year students as smooth as possible. This includes answering all of their questions to the best of my abilities, and when I’m not sure pointing them in the right direction. I also have a slew of resources at my disposal allowing me to plan really fun events for my floor. But I will only be an RA for two terms because I am going to Paris spring term to further my French studies. It should be a blast. This term I am taking Intro to Women and Gender Studies, Intro to LGBTQ studies, and French 204. All classes that I am madly in love with and I can't wait to see how they turn out!
