The Carleton social media team sponsored an Instagram contest, asking our current students to show us the spaces where they live, study and socialize. We know one of the biggest questions for prospective students involve the residence halls and what it's like to live in a dorm at Carleton. Thanks to everyone who shared their spaces with us, and we hope this gives those students interested in Carleton a little insight into what a cool experience residential life is at Carleton. Make sure to follow our Instagram account, @CarletonCollege!
To learn more about the residential life experience at Carleton, visit the explore section of our website, which includes a few interviews and short room tours from actual Carls!
Winner-Best Decor - Mitch Campbell '14 - Burton Hall
The committee was very impressed with the attention to detail in Mitch's space, and also the plants and other touches of green, which we all know is a very positive, life-affirming color! The committee also liked the use of older, vintage photos and posters, and frankly the area looked like a very inviting, comfy spot to hang out or study. Mitch won a plush penguin speaker with a little pocket for his smartphone or mp3 player.
Winner-Best Use of Space - Maddy Cosgriff '17 - Myers Hall
The committee loved Maddy's homey-looking space - we wanted to curl up underneath that bed a read a good book! The committee was intrigued by her artwork on the wall and the collection of Star Trek paraphernalia (and is that R2D2 and a light saber as well?) on the shelves. Extra points for the HP poster - did you know the series was edited by Carleton graduate Cheryl Klein - give her a follow on Twitter.
By the way, Maddy wins a Midea MiniFridge, which we think will fit into her space very nicely.
Winner-Best Gear - Pete Dehkes '17 - Musser Hall
The committee was wowed by Pete Dehkes' quad-screen setup. Be it gaming, watching multiple sporting events or some intense research, it looks like Pete is set up for anything. He wins a Creative Labs Portable D100 Bluetooth wireless speaker, which will integrate wonderfully with his setup! We know of at least one committee member that was bummed to see that leave the office…
There were so many other great entries, and we really appreciate the students who entered. We've shared their entries via their individual Instagram accounts here, along with posting some PicStitches from our own Carleton College Instagram account for those entries we received via email (students didn't need to have an Instagram account to enter).
