  • Q: How would you describe the students at Carleton?
A: People who are passionate and curious fit in well at Carleton. Motivated people who take the initiative to make their Carleton career exactly what they want it to be. Everyone usually fits in at Carleton, they just can't be afraid to limit themselves.
  • Q: Why did you choose Carleton?
A: I always liked the small school vibe: discussion-based class sizes, lots of opportunities to get involved, and a strong sense of student community. I searched the Midwest for schools that exemplified these traits, and not only did Carleton meet the criteria exactly, it ended up being my most affordable option.
  • Q: Did financial aid influence your college decision?
A: I was always drawn to Carleton, but the fact that Carleton made itself just as affordable, if not more so, than any other school I applied to made the decision that much easier.
  • Q: What other schools did you seriously consider?
    A: Northwestern, Macalester, Kenyon, Beloit.
  • Q: Did you visit Carleton before applying?
A: I visited campus to have an interview and a tour. The lady at the desk said, "Your interviewer wasn't able to make it, so Paul said he would just fill in." My immediate reaction was disappointment. I came all this way for an interview, and I was going to get Paul the backup interviewer, the pinch hitter. Disheartened, I was led into a room where an older man in a blue blazer sat behind a desk. The interview went smoothly, and at the end, Paul gave me his card in case I had any questions. As I left the office, I peered down at the card and realized that "pinch hitter Paul" was none other than Paul Thiboutot, Dean of Admissions!
  • Q: How would you describe campus life at Carleton?
A: Always alive. Whether it is throwing a Frisbee out in the Bald Spot or reading in the Libe or participating in one of the many activities on campus, Carleton student life always has a healthy pulse.
  • Q: What surprised you about Carleton?
A: I was surprised by just how much there is to do at Carleton. You'd have to make an effort to be bored around here. Between the plethora of student-run organizations to the constantly buzzing campus hot spots (including the Libe), Carleton always has an activity for every different type of person.
  • Q: What are your interests & hobbies?
A: Running, writing, murder mysteries, board games, movies, cards, conversing.
