    Zaira lives in Goodhue Hall

    Goodhue is a residence hall across the Lyman Lakes from the main campus, next to the Arb and the Rec Center. One of its distinguishing features is its "Superlounge," a converted dining hall with a big-screen television as well as ping pong and billiard tables.

  • Lyman Lakes

    Zaira likes Lyman Lakes

    Lyman Lakes are two small lakes on campus. They separate Goodhue, the Rec Center and the frisbee fields from the rest of campus. The lakes comprise approximately 8 acres of surface area on the lower Spring Creek watershed. The Lower Lyman Lake is the site of Mai Fete and Stewsie Island.

  • Q: What campus jobs have you had while at Carleton?
    A: I work with the Northfield Community Resource Center. I get to work with immigrant families through my job.
  • Q: How would you describe the students at Carleton?
    A: When meeting other people on campus, you soon realize how different, unique, and interesting everyone is here. I think these characteristics make it pretty easy for Carls to get along with each other. I guess that there is no need to worry about fitting in at Carleton if you are passionate about something--the social aspect of your experience here will take care of itself.
  • Q: How would you describe campus life at Carleton?
    A: It is hard to get bored at Carleton. One can always find opportunities to pursue different interests. The different campus activities always keep the campus in motion.
  • Q: What other schools did you seriously consider?
    A: I transferred from the College of Saint Benedict, but I was also considering Scripps College and the University of Notre Dame.
  • Q: Why did you choose Carleton?
    A: Because of the school's academic rigor and the extracurricular activities the students have access to.
  • Q: Did financial aid influence your college decision?
    A: The Carleton Grant alleviated in a very significant way the burden that paying for college can be. This allowed me to come to Carleton without taking enormous amounts of loans.
  • Q: What would surprise your high school friends about you now?
    A: I think I am gaining confidence in myself and in my ideas. I have become a much better critical thinker.
  • Q: Any advice for high school students on their college search?
    A: It is important to take into consideration what you can get from the school, the professors, the programs, and the facilities. Looking over at what kind of classmates you will have throughout your college career should also be a crucial determinant of your college choice.
  • Q: What are your interests & hobbies?
    A: I practiced judo for about 5 years, and I continue to practice whenever I go home for the vacations. Right now I am really interested in the Model UN team, and I have also joined the rugby team. Whenever I cannot make it to practice, I love running in the arb.
