    Avantika likes Goodbye Blue Monday

    Goodbye Blue Monday is a coffee shop on Division Street in downtown Northfield. It's a great place to study because there's free wireless and coffee close at hand. There's also funky art on the walls and hot cider served in the winter.

  • Psychology 318 - Psychopharmacology was a favorite course for Avantika:
    One of the most interesting assignments I've worked on was for my Psychopharmacology class, where we had to write out prescriptions for hypothetical patients suffering from various psychological/psychiatric conditions.

    A: Organic Chemistry I. Most of my classes have been difficult, but I have managed to handle them so far.

  • Q: How would you describe academic life at Carleton?
    A: Academics is given high priority at Carleton. Terms get very busy with regular assignments. Students interact a lot with professors both inside and out of class.
  • Q: What surprised you about Carleton?
    A: The small closed community and the high level of interaction with professors.
  • Q: What other schools did you seriously consider?
    A: Colby, Tufts, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.
  • Q: Why did you choose Carleton?
    A: I was looking for a reputed liberal arts college and Carleton fit the category. Also, I had heard good things about the geology and the biology departments through friends.
  • Q: Any advice for high school students on their college search?
    A: One of the most important things about looking for a college is to feel the vibe the college gives out. Most college websites will look the same and give the same sort of information, but some will strike out--and it's usually the one with which you can identify with the most.
  • Q: How would you describe campus life at Carleton?
    A: Campus life is: Unique, busy, involved, hectic, closely knit.
  • Q: What campus jobs have you had while at Carleton?
    A: Freshmen year I worked as an office assistant at the philosophy dept. Last year I worked at the admissions office, international student programs office. I am also a photo monitor at the photo lab in Boliou. I enjoy working on campus. My favorite is the photo monitor job as it allows me to work in the darkroom and develop my own photos during my down time.
  • Q: Have you participated in any off-campus study programs?
    A: I went on the Australia Coastal Ecology program my winter term sophomore year. The most memorable experience was our stay on Heron Island, one of the Great Barrier Reef islands. We did a night snorkel and went scuba diving...one of my best experiences ever.
  • Q: What are your interests & hobbies?
    A: Photography, traveling, swimming, Bharatnatyam (an Indian Classical Dance form).
