Economics analyzes the ways in which resources can be most effectively organized to meet the changing goals of a society. Courses combine theoretical and applied economics as a basis for developing and evaluating alternative public policies for entire economies and for the institutions and organizations within an economy. At Carleton, faculty members work together with students to study a common theoretical core and then apply these principles to a wide variety of topics. Opportunities exist for independent study in close collaboration with a faculty member and participation in off-campus study is valued, particularly through Carleton’s economics program in Cambridge, England.
