Physics
The scope of physical studies—from atoms to galaxies—is well represented in the department’s imaginative curriculum, which promotes collaborative learning among faculty members and students. About 90 percent of majors carry out a research project at Carleton or another laboratory or university. Physics studies are centered in Olin Hall, with spacious teaching laboratories, research areas, and computer facilities. Goodsell Observatory contains a 16-inch and an 8-inch refractor, six portable telescopes, seven CCD cameras, and a spectograph. Students can travel with a faculty member to various U.S. observatories, including Arecibo in Puerto Rico.
You can major in this subject.
