I've been a tutor for the Northfield Middle School, worked in the P.E. and Athletics office, and now I'm a Mellon Fellow, which means I get to do independent research during the school year. Our weekly meetings have been some of the most engaging sessions. We can spend hours talking about issues that are relevant to us as scholars and students from underrepresented communities.

I worked in the dining hall for two years, both as a student worker and as a manager. I remember once a student tried to ride down the conveyor belt that leads from dining area to the dish room, and actually made it most of the way before getting stuck at the end. Last year I worked as an IPA (Intercultural Program Assistant) for the Office of Intercultural Life. Also, for the past two years, I have worked in the Chemistry department as a tutor, grader and lab T.A. During the breaks, I have worked for custodial, both doing cleaning and in their office doing data entry. The custodians are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Finally, I did research with Deborah Gross last summer, which was incredible.

I work at the Student Computing and Information Center (SCIC). It's a great job, and I'm having a great time learning about computers and meeting lots of Carleton students.

The Admissions Office says:
Most students receiving financial aid have a part-time campus job as part of their aid package. First-year students may work up to eight hours per week. College jobs on campus include assignments in food service, academic and administrative offices, custodial, library, residence halls and facilities. Incoming new students fill out a job preference form with their skills and interests, which helps Student Financial Services match them with available jobs.

I'm from another country. Can I work to help pay for my education? Do I need a social security number? The Admissions Office says:
Yes, if you receive financial assistance from Carleton College part of that aid will come from your on-campus employment. A social security number is not required for non-U.S. students.

I consider myself lucky enough to have had the two coolest campus jobs there are: Arb Crew and post office. The former Arb Czar, Myles Bakke, was hands-down the best storyteller I've ever met. Our work shifts were combinations of seed-collecting, buckthorn eradication, prairie burning, trail maintenance, and watching Myles scale trees with a chainsaw in tow to thin out an area we restored to Oak Savannah. This job pointed me to my current potential post-college path, wilderness maintenance and trail restoration in National Parks.

I'm an admissions blogger. It's got to be the best job there is. Yes, better even than the campus Post Office. Take that, Post Office.

I worked in the Business Office last year, and I still do. This year I also work as an athletic recruiter, which so far has mostly consisted of fixing things around West Gym.
-
I've been a French Tutor, Custodial services, French TA, Physics grader, Math grader, Research Assistant.

I have worked in the Admissions office since this summer. I love talking to prospective students about Carleton and giving tours.

I'm a Chaplain's Associate. The perks include learning about all the cool secret parts of the chapel.

I’m a writer for the web team (I write articles for the web magazine, Shout, and blog for Admissions). I think it’s an incredible job, because I thought I would have to wait until after graduation to make money writing. I’m getting to improve my journalistic writing, which I’d never done before, and write for a blog that’s read by people other than my friends.

Freshmen year I worked as an office assistant at the philosophy dept. Last year I worked at the admissions office, international student programs office. I am also a photo monitor at the photo lab in Boliou. I enjoy working on campus. My favorite is the photo monitor job as it allows me to work in the darkroom and develop my own photos during my down time.
