Test Scores

The SAT tests are not available in my country, what should I do? The Admissions Office says:We will waive this requirement for students in this situation. Let us know by email or letter that this is the case for you. -
Is there any financial assistance for students who meet the minimum of preferred test scores at Carleton? The Admissions Office says:Carleton operates a need-based financial aid system, not a merit-based system. This means that we work to meet 100% of every student's demonstrated financial need, rather than distributing scholarships or grants based on any past achievements. -
The Admissions Office says:Carleton requires each applicant to submit results of the SAT I or the ACT with writing prior to admission.
We recommend (but do not require) that candidates submit the results of their SAT II: subject tests, formerly called Achievement Tests. SAT II test results usually enhance a candidate's credentials and only rarely constitute a negative factor.

The Admissions Office says:At Carleton, no. We want to get the whole picture before we make a decision about a prospective student, so we do not accept or reject anyone based solely on grade-point average (GPA) or scores on tests like the SAT I and ACT. We do require that you take one of those tests as part of the application process, though.
Please note: Some colleges do set a minimum threshhold for GPA or test scores, so it's important to get specific information on admission requirements from each college you are considering.

I live outside the U.S. Can I send admission documents by fax or email? The Admissions Office says:Yes, you may fax them to 507-222-4526 or email admissionsglobal@carleton.edu Remember that school transcripts and test scores need to be sent by a school official. -
The Admissions Office says:When making admission decisions, our counselors look at a combination of academic and personal components, to get a whole picture of the student. The transcript is the most important part of the application. We want to see that you are challenging yourself by taking a difficult course load and still maintaining excellent grades.
On the personal side of things, a great amount of weight is placed on how involved you are outside of the classroom, as well as your recommendation letters and essay. While we require either the ACT or SAT, it is the last thing we look at. Impressive test scores are can be an asset to an application, yet we are more concerned with a student's performance within the classroom.
You'll take numerous classes at Carleton, but you'll never take a standardized test here.
