  • Volunteering in Iowa
"This fall before classes started, I volunteered with a group of Carleton students to help clean up after flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa." -Liz Evison '10

Volunteering

  • Marquita Davis '09
I have volunteered at the Assisted Learning Center at the Northfield Middle School, volunteered with Books for Africa, played basketball with youth in Fairbault through the M-TAG program, and helped with the Special Olympics.
  • Peter Schlesinger '12 in the Arb
I cleared the invasive buckthorn plant in the Arb during New Student Week. It was a surprisingly fun and even therapeutic experience.
  • Margaret Taylor '10
I help out with Arb restoration. It's quite cathartic to rip out buckthorn when I'm frustrated about homework.
  • Liz Evison '10
I am a program director for Books for Africa, which collects and processes donated textbooks to be shipped to the African continent. We've recently collected a large number of books from the Carleton campus and the Northfield community, and led programs introducing middle school students to community service. I also enjoy helping with the Red Cross blood drive when it comes to campus every term.
  • Collin Hazlett '12 in Goodsell Observatory
Have you done any volunteering at Carleton? Collin Hazlett '12 says:
Fighting invasive buckthorn in the Arb.
  • Keven Tell '09 in Stimson House
I have done a little volunteering around campus, helping with teaching science to elementary students as well as Girl Scouts. This year, I am also planning on volunteering at Northfield Hospital.
  • Chase Kimball '10
Every Saturday last year I would read children's books to kids at the Northfield Public Library.
