May 2008
As President Oden told potential members of the Class of 2012 during a recent accepted students weekend, weather in Minnesota is like Carleton: challenging, engaging, and it requires a response! Thankfully, that response no longer requires a shovel and it seems summer is finally on its way, just in time for Spring Concert this weekend. Warmer weather also means the end of the fiscal year is fast approaching. Read on for information to help make the next two months successful for your class and for Carleton!

Focus for May
Maximize your year-end fundraising efforts by going after the “low-hanging fruit” on your list: Lybunts and Unpaid Pledges. Contact your staff manager to get step-by-step instructions on logging into and using the Portal.
- To view Lybunts on the Portal, log in and open your My Contacts report. Filter the Group column by selecting Lybunts from the lower drop down menu. Sort the Date of Last Gift column by Least Recent.
- Another way to boost your dollar and participation totals is to remind classmates with unpaid pledges to fulfill them. To find your assignments with unpaid pledges on the Portal, log in and open your My Contacts report. Sort the 2008 Pledge column by Descending. Look for classmates with an amount in the 2008 Pledge column, but a blank 2008 Giving column.

Connecting with Carleton
Talking about current happenings at Carleton can be a fun and easy way to create or re-establish the link you share with your classmates. Here are a few topics to get you started.
- Carleton Athletics: It's been a busy and successful term for Carleton's sports teams! Women's rugby finished their second undefeated season and both CUT and Syzygy are headed to Nationals in Boulder, Colorado. Read more in the online version of the Carletonian.
- Convocation this week: This Friday's Convo will feature Thomas C. Schelling, a 2005 Nobel Prize winner. His presentation, “Can We Manage the Greenhouse Problem?,” will address the economic implications of reducing green house gas emissions. Read more..

Despite a concerted effort, alumni volunteers can’t always personally solicit each and every one of their classmates. The student callers can help! There are 30 students who call alumni each term on behalf of the AAF and your class gift. Though nothing beats a solicitation from you, personal contact from one of our outstanding students is the next best way to connect your classmates to Carleton and encourage ongoing participation in the Alumni Annual Fund. One of our star callers is Peter Antonov '09.
