I give to Carleton because... (Transcript)
SETTING: The Carleton campus during Reunion 2007, on and around the Bald Spot. A series of alumni of different ages address the camera in turn.
-
Alum 1: I give to Carleton because Carleton has given a lot to me, and it only seems right to return the favor.
-
Alum 2: I give to Carleton because my four years at Carleton were some of my best memories of my life.
-
Alum 3: I give to Carleton to give back and to show my appreciation for the education that I received.
-
Alum 4: I give to Carleton because it taught me to think—how to think, how to be in the world.
-
Alum 5: I give to Carleton because I want to ensure that future students have the same opportunities that I had to get a great education.
-
Alum 6: I give to Carleton because I have two kids, and we live in southern Indiana, and I’d like them to know there’s a place where they can make up their own minds, think about whatever they want to think about, and have people who are willing to feed their appetite to know.
-
Alum 7: I’ve given to Carleton over the years because I admire immensely the way they have tried to base their financial assistance on need, and that egalitarian quality is well worth trying to preserve.
-
Alum 8 (with young child on his shoulders): I give to Carleton because I want people like Elly here to go to Carleton.
-
Alum 9: I give to Carleton because I believe that the whole intellectual foundation of Carleton is just a tremendous, tremendous opportunity and we should continue the tradition of giving.
-
Alum 10 (wearing Class of ’57 button): I have given something, modestly, most of the years since I graduated.
-
Alum 4: If any of you is wondering about giving…it feels good. It feels good to give to something that you know will add value to our world.
-
Alum 11 (with arm around Alum 12): I give to Carleton because I still am such good friends with my freshman year roommate, and this is her. And I think about her all the time, and I still have such wonderful memories.
-
Alum 12 (standing with Alum 11): And we still talk every week.
TEXT: Whatever your reason, please give to Carleton today.
