Wednesday, October 26 Arrival Day
At your leisure: Arrive at the Grand Hyatt New York (or the hotel of your choice)
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Grand Hyatt New York (Park Avenue and Grand Central). When reserving a room in this block please ask for the Carleton College Alumni Weekend to get the rate of $279 per night. This block of rooms will be held until October 5. Reservations can be made by calling the Hotel’s Reservation Department at (212) 883-1234 or 800-233-1234.
You will be able to pick up your registration material in our hospitality suite after 4 p.m. (The exact location of this suite will be given to you closer to the weekend.)

Introductions, Overview of the Weekend
10:30 a.m. Museum of Modern Art – Moving into the new Modern, designed by Yoshio Tanigushi.
Two Carleton alums are currently working at the Museum of Modern Art and it is our hope that they will be able to join us for a portion of our visit. Anne Umland ’80 is Curator of Painting and Sculpture, and Claire Gilman '92 is Curatorial Assistant in the Department of the Chief Curator at Large . More information will be forthcoming on the exhibits that will be in place at the time of our visit.
12:30 p.m. Lunch on your own at the Museum or one of the area restaurants

2 p.m. Christie’s Auction at Rockefeller Center
“Silver and Objects of Virtu” This will be our opportunity to see an auction.
Following: American Folk Art Museum, Austrian Cultural Center, return to MoMA.
Two distinctive new cultural buildings have opened in the Museum of Modern Art's immediate neighborhood: the award-winning American Folk Art Museum (www.folkartmuseum.org), 2001, designed by Billie Tsien and Todd Williams; and the Austrian Cultural Center, 2002, by Raymond Abraham.
6:30 p.m. Reception at the Home of David Diamond ’80 and Karen Zukowski ‘80
We will leave the hotel in a group and travel by subway to the Diamond residence.

8:45 a.m. Meet in the Grand Hyatt Hotel lobby
9 a.m. Visit the studio of artist Donna Dennis ‘64
Dennis, who lives downtown near City Hall, creates large architectural installations and prints and drawings.

Dieu Donne Papermill is a non-profit artist workspace dedicated to the creation, promotion and preservation of contemporary art in the hand papermaking process (for example, Dieu Donne has collaborated extensively with artist Chuck Close). Our two hour visit here will include a tour, gallery talk and the opportunity to actually work with the papermaking process and make your own sheet of paper.
Noon Travel to Upper East Side for lunch at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

A.M. On your own for breakfast and other activities
11:30 a.m. Meet in the hotel lobby for transportation to Chelsea (far west side, between about 19th and 26th Streets)
Noon Group Lunch at Bottino
1:30 – 4 p.m. Tour Chelsea art galleries, the latest neighborhood for contemporary art. Includes talk by gallerist Julie Saul, who will speak about running a gallery, the contemporary photography scene and more. (Julie Saul Gallery, 535 West 22nd Street, 6th Floor)
4-5 p.m. Stop into Christies, Rockefeller Center, to view preview exhibition of Fine Prints (Auction = November 1) .

Sunday, October 30
8:30 a.m. Group Breakfast at Hotel
Wrap-up for the weekend and farewell
10:15 a.m. Depart for optional trip to Dia Beacon
