Photo Album from this adventure
Join art history professor Lauren Soth and his wife Nancy for a cultural cruise aboard the first-class ship, the M. Y. Monet.
Village Life
This cruise is designed for those who realize the vibrant character of a country is best found in the provinces or around the local market. It focuses on the historic Illyrian islands and medieval towns that once ruled the Adriatic. You will learn the fascinating history of Venice’s empire and discover marvelous walled medieval towns, nearly unchanged from the 15th century.
Ports of Call
Travel to Venice, Pula, Split. In Venice and Dubrovnik, the timeless capitals of the Adriatic, enjoy discussions with prominent conservation experts. Excursions will include meetings with local residents and guided tours. The M. Y. Monet is small enough to dock near the medieval town walls, so you can step off the vessel and walk directly into the 15th century.

Accommodations
The M. Y. Monet features 30 first-class cabins for a truly distinctive and personal sailing experience. Carleton will be sharing this voyage with alumni from Penn. This adventure includes all meals and arranged excursions.

Optional Extension
A two-day extension to Venice prior to the cruise is available on request.
Faculty
A frequent lecturer at Carleton alumni club events around the country, Lauren Soth, art history professor emeritus, has been a faculty member for 40 years and has taught 40 different art history courses during that time. While Vincent Van Gogh has been his special interest, Soth has published articles on artists and architects as varied as Correggio, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Marsden Hartley. During travels on the Dalmatian Coast, he will be accompanied by his wife, Nancy, a retired administrator of Carleton study-abroad programs.
