THE SEINE
The Seine and its tributaries, the Oise, Aube, Eure, Yonne, and Marne formed an essential part of that great system of waterways that linked Paris for over a thousand years, not only to the Atlantic seaboard, but to the rest of northern and eastern France. As the major highway not only for goods, but also for any potential sea-borne invasion, the survival of Paris was inextricably tied to its ruler’s ability to control access to the river. Not until the 18th and 19th centuries did the Seine’s grim castles and riverine cities and towns become a playground for Parisians and an inspiration for its artists.THE JOURNEY
Stroll through Paris’ colorful Montmartre Quarter, where artists and musicians such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, and Django Reinhardt gathered and worked. View France’s incomparable legacy of Impressionist painting in Auvers-sur-Oise. Step back into the Middle Ages in Rouen, the city of Joan of Arc, visit the Normandy Beaches where Allied Forces landed on D-Day in June 1944, and meet with local residents to discuss life in the Seine Valley.THE SHIP
An ideal ship for cruising the Seine River, the deluxe M.V. Cézanne is designed to navigate the waterways of France, following the riverbanks for close-up views of villages and chateaux. This ship accommodates up to 100 passengers in 50 spacious outside cabins.FACULTY
