Frequently Asked Questions

When should I arrive?

Please see the preliminary agenda for CAVE for specific information, but generally we suggest volunteers arrive on campus by Noon on Friday, August 21. When you get to campus, please visit the Registration Desk on the first floor of the Language and Dining Center (located between Nourse and Myers) to pick up your room assignment, key, resident hall access card, and CAVE materials.

If you plan to arrive before 8 pm on Thursday, come to the Alumni Affairs Office (located at the SE corner of First and College - 400 East First Street) to pick up your room key and resident hall access card. If you plan to arrive after 8 pm on Thursday, please contact the Alumni Affairs Office by 4 pm on Wednesday, August 20 at 800-729-2586 or alumni-office@carleton.edu to make alternate arrangements for key pick up.

How do I get to campus from the airport?

*Please note that Carleton will reimburse for transportation to and from the airport, up to $90. Please refer to the Volunteer Expense Policy for details.

Rental Cars
Car rental is available from many different companies at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. If you are interested, please contact any of them directly. We have found in the past that renting a car is often the most economical way to travel to and from the airport.

Care Tenders, Inc.
24-hour advance reservations required. Cost is $84 per person for round-trip rides between Northfield and the airport between 5:00 am and 10:30 pm. Cash, check, and major credit cards accepted. For reservations or more information, call 888-492-7433 or visit http://www.careextenders.com/.

Archer Limousine
48-hour advance reservations required. Cost is $184 round trip between Northfield and the airport per trip regardless of the number of passengers. Major credit cards accepted. For reservations, call 877-503-9482 or visit http://www.archerlimo.com/. If you reserve by phone, tell them you are a Carleton College alumni volunteer. If you reserve online, please note this in the comment section.

Can I share transportation from the airport?

As we receive information about volunteer arrival and departure times, we will make that information available so that you may coordinate your travel arrangements with other alumni if you so choose.

Can I receive a discount on my airfare?

You are eligible to receive a discount of up to 7% off the lowest applicable fare on Northwest Airlines if your ticket is purchased more than 30 days in advance or up to 5% if your ticket is purchased less than 30 days before you travel. For the lowest fares available, you may call Northwest directly, go online to www.nwa.com, or contact your local travel agency. Please identify yourself as attending the Carleton College Volunteer Workshop and reference Northwest Worldfile Number NM2VJ.

Please note that if you book online, you need to enter the Worldfile Number before you purchase the ticket. In the search options, select "Meeting Agreement (Worldfile Number)" from the drop down menu under "Do you have an E-Cert Fare, electronic voucher or meeting agreement?" and it will then prompt you to enter the Worldfile Number.

Where will I be staying?

If you are returning to plan your Reunion, you will be housed in Nourse or Watson. Both dorms are air-conditioned, have elevators, and feature bathrooms “down the hall.”

If you are a Class Agent or Assistant Agent for the Alumni Annual Fund, you will be housed in Davis. The dorm is air-conditioned and features shared bathrooms.

What do I need to bring?

Sheets, a blanket, pillow, and towels will be provided. You may wish to bring an alarm clock, reading lamp, and a few hangers.

Can I use my laptop?

Carleton College has gone “wireless” in some locations on campus. ITS has provided a map to help you locate the various wireless access points.
