REUNION WEEKEND 2008 -- Preliminary Schedule

The schedule below shows the class of ’58 program as it currently stands and includes some general items already in place for your reunion. It is subject to change and is not comprehensive (for example, we will have scheduled tours of the Arb, faculty talks, etc).

THURSDAY, JUNE 19

1 p.m. Carleton Open golf tournament for those signed up in advance, Northfield Golf Club, Prairie and 7th Streets

1 p.m. Committee arrival and check-in; Official Check-in Time for non-committee is 3 p.m. (Judith Richards Spurgin to organize a team of greeters for arrivals), Watson Hall

4 p.m. Campus Tour or Then and Now Tour

5-9 p.m. Taste of Northfield and Re-enactment of the bank raid by the Jesse James Gang (appx. 7:30 p.m.), Downtown Northfield

6 p.m. Reception and dinner for all ‘58 class members who have arrived, Great Hall

FRIDAY, JUNE 20 (Future Oriented)

8 a.m.-8 p.m. Registration, Watson Hall

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Alumni Art Exhibit, open for installations, Art Gallery

9 a.m.-11 a.m. “Shaping the Education of the Future,” with President Oden and Carleton faculty,

Concert Hall

11:30-1:30 p.m. Luncheon for Heywood Society Members, Great Hall

12-1:30 p.m. All-class lunch, Chapel Tent West

1:30-3:30 p.m. Two forward looking topical sessions running back-to-back-to-back

-“Social Issues of our Increasingly Digital World,” with: Lee Jones, moderator, Yvonne Connolly Martin, and Don Switz

-“What Should Educators be Doing to Prepare Students for 2025 and Beyond,” with: Leah Schwantes Rhys, moderator, Shirley Wiegman Rudolph, and Sonia Olander Colorito, Rod Napier and Mike Armacost

4-5:30 p.m. All classes: reception with current and retired faculty and staff, Bald Spot

4:15 p.m. Mel Taube Memorial Plaque Dedication

5 p.m. Class Picture, Chapel

5:30 p.m. Reception in the Gould Library, Main Level

6:30 p.m. Class Dinner in Great Hall

Post Dinner Short performances by class members, Great Hall

10 p.m. Fireworks show

SATURDAY, JUNE 21 (Looking back)

7:30 a.m. ’58 Women’s Breakfast, Evans Dining

8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Alumni Art Exhibit open, Art Gallery

8:30-9:30 a.m. “Intelligent Design: A Scientific and Religious Critique,” with Ian Barbour, Olin 149

9:45 a.m. Line up for Parade of Classes (spouses/guests welcome!), Bald Spot

10:30 a.m. Alumni Convocation: presentation of alumni association awards, attendance trophy, class gifts, President’s report; Skinner Memorial Chapel

12:15 p.m. Class of ‘58 luncheon, Dining East

12:30-2 p.m. Alumni and faculty book and CD signing session, Sayles-Hill Great Space

1:30 p.m. “Carleton 1958-2008: Our Dreams and Legacy,” Moderated by Peter Puchner. Panelists: Sadao Asada, Bonny Bray Armacost, Rod Napier, Karin Swanson

3:30 p.m. Class memorial service led by Jim Halfaker. Sarah Skinner Trumbull and Don Switz to read names, Japanese Garden behind Watson Hall

4:15 p.m. Alumni Choir rehearsal, Chapel

5:30 p.m. Special ‘58 reception with President Oden and Teresa Oden, Nutting House

6:30 p.m. Class dinner, Tea Room. Closing remarks by Jon and Tucky (Reunion Co-Chairs)

SUNDAY, JUNE 22

9:30 a.m. Alumni Choir rehearsal, Chapel

10:30 a.m. Alumni Remembrance Service, Chapel

Noon Check-out (last airport shuttle departs at 1 p.m.)
