The Bay Area Carleton Club invites you to a

Family Adventure Sail on San Francisco Bay

Sunday, October 23, 2016
10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Seaward
2100 Bridgeway
Sausalito, CA 94965

Ahoy Bay Area Carls! You are invited to spend a delightful fall morning exploring the wonders of the San Francisco Bay on the 82-foot schooner Seaward. We will be treated to amazing views of Bay Area sights (the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, and Alcatraz, among others) from a vantage point many of us have never seen - even if we've lived here for decades.

Seaward is owned and operated by Call of the Sea, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students better understand their world through experiential education, with the aim of empowering future generations to become “environmental stewards.” Gary Schwarzman ’66 was an avid sailor who served on the Call of the Sea board of directors for many years. Gary passed away last year, but his vision of learning through action lives on in the organization and the boat.

No sailing experience is required for this event and it's appropriate for participants of all ages. Seaward has a four-person crew that will provide for all of our needs while we're on board. If you're interested, we'll have the option to learn a bit of seamanship from the crew, including hoisting the sails and setting a course; but kicking back to enjoy the scenery is an equally viable choice. Seaward's crew is also well-versed in local ecology, and they will be happy to discuss SF Bay's unique ecosystem with anyone interested. Bring warm clothes - wind and waves can make for a brisk experience on the water.

Cost:
$45 per person ($60 minus $15 group discount)

Book directly on the Call of the Sea website.
Select the October 23 "Family Adventure Sail" and use the group discount code Carleton16 to receive $15 off the regular adult ticket price of $60.

Directions to the venue: Seaward is docked in Sausalito, CA. The dock is directly in front of the Bay Model Visitors Center at 2100 Bridgeway. There is ample parking next door to the visitors center.

Please be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes early to be on board for our 10 a.m. departure. Seaward will cast off promptly at 10 a.m., with or without you. Coffee, tea, juice and snacks will be provided, but you’ll have to BYOP (parrot).

Once you have booked your tickets on the Call of the Sea website, do let us know you are coming. RSVPs are appreciated by Friday, September 30, 2016 to Christopher Payne '91 at christopher.payne@alumni.carleton.edu.
