April 10-12, 2015
Experience Song of the Jasmine - featuring Aparna Ramaswamy '97, Ashwini Ramaswamy '03, and Ranee Ramaswamy P '97 '03 - at the Museum of Contemporary Art! Ragamala Dance Company and jazz composer/saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa move between past and present, composition and improvisation to delve into the idea of longing through recollection, appeal, and surrender. This work explores the spiritual, the sensual, and the natural that are the lifeblood of the Indian psyche. Mahanthappa leads a new ensemble of south Indian and jazz artists that includes Rez Abbasi (guitar), Raman Kalyan (South Indian flute), Rajna Swaminathan (mridangam, south Indian drum), and Anjna Swaminathan (violin), for Ragamala’s five dancers.
