Jeff Pipes ’83 and Florence Wong ’84 will journey from their winery in Paso Robles to guide San Diego Carls through a tasting of their wines. Bill ’57 and Robin Comer have kindly agreed to host. The cost of the tasting is $10. Please make checks out to “Pipestone Vineyards.” You are also invited, but not required, to bring an appetizer to share. Alternative beverages will be provided.

Jeff Pipes ’83 and Florence Wong '84 founded the Pipestone Vineyard in 1997. Jeff was a geology major at Carleton and then a lawyer. Florence worked in the garment industry. They decided to follow their dream by planting and developing the Pipestone Vineyard in Paso Robles. They have done all of the work themselves except for assistance during the harvest. Jeff and Florence will talk about the different grapes and their process for growing grapes. They use organic methods where it makes sense. To learn more see http:// www.pipestonevineyards.com. They will also talk about how a flexible education helped them to transition from environmental law and fashion to organic farming. Many of us have tasted the Pipestone wines and are familiar with them. Directions to 5460 Calzada del Bosque: take I-5 (from north or south) to Via de la Valle or Lomas Santa Fe and turn east. On Via de la Valle go east almost 4 miles to stop light at Calzada del Bosque (Chino's vegetable farm on right), turn left and go up the hill 0.4 mi to 5460 (middle of three driveways on right side), look for blue and yellow balloons. Or, go east on Lomas Santa Fe 3 miles to Calzada del Bosque (many curves then right at intersection after sharp curve), go 0.3 mi down the hill to 5460 on left side, look for same blue and yellow balloons.
