Alumni Directory: Frequently Asked Questions

How can I obtain my username and password?
If you have an email address on file with the College, go to the automated password recovery page. If we do not have an email address for you, please e-mail your full name, your birthdate, and your class year to alumni-office@acs.carleton.edu or call 1-800-729-2586 and staff will respond to your request.

I changed my password and have now forgotten it.
Try the password recovery page or contact the Alumni Affairs Office at 1-800-729-2586.

How do I change my password?
Log in and click on the "Change Password" link.

What's my username
The basic formula for usernames is the first seven letters of the last name and first initial, underscore, and full class year. For example, the username for Friedrich Schiller '58 would be 'schillef_1958'. For alumni from recent classes, your username is the the same as it was during your student days, followed by your class year. Contact the Alumni Affairs Office at alumni-office@acs.carleton.edu or call 1-800-729-2586 with questions.

How do I log out once I've logged in?
Our site uses the standard form of web authentication, which means that your login information is stored in your web browser until you quit the browser completely. Once you quit the browser and then restart it, you'll be prompted to log in again when you try to use the directory. If you are in a two-Carl family, please note that you must quit your browser for the other Carl to log in with their username and password. Because of security reasons, no one can change someone else's biographical information.

I updated my address or changed my preferences for what appears, using the online form. How long will it take this new information to appear in the Directory?
Once you submit the information, it is normally recorded in the College database within 10 working days.

Is the Directory searchable by Carleton name as well as current last name?
Yes. The Directory searches for current names and names while at Carleton.

Why do I only get a partial result when I search for all members of my class or Carleton Club area?
Results are limited to 500 per search. This is both for reasons of security and because larger searches slow the system down considerably. The directory is not intended to produce an entire class list or list of all alumni in a region. If you have questions about this, or are a reunion, AAF or clubs volunteer needing an updated list, please contact Becky Zrimsek '89 in the Alumni Affairs Office.

I’m really puzzled by this system. Can I get help?
Technical help is available via e-mail: mheiman@carleton.edu. For comments about our site content, design, etc., please e-mail alumni-office@acs.carleton.edu.

I’m concerned about having my personal information available on the site. What is the privacy policy?
The privacy of your personal information is our top priority. Only you can update your personal information, and only the Carleton community with passwords (alumni, faculty, students and staff) can view Online Directory information. You may limit the information that appears to other alumni in the online directory. Carleton College has a strict policy never to release any personally identifiable information about alumni to third parties.

What are the parameters for use of the Online Directory?
The information in the Directory is for official College and Alumni Association use, and also for personal communication between alumni. Use of the Directory for any other purpose, including commercial or political communications or solicitations, is strictly prohibited. Misuse of the Directory will result in loss of access privileges. Report misuse to the Alumni Affairs Office, alumni-office@acs.carleton.edu.

What if I want to host a Carleton gathering in my area and want to contact people using the Directory?
Please contact the Alumni Affairs Office. Staff will discuss your planned event with you and can help you advertise it appropriately.
