Immigrant Women and Domestic Violence

Immigrant women often face extra hurdles in dealing with domestic violence. Refugee and immigrant women are particularly vulnerable to certain forms of abuse and face unique problems in gaining protection from violence. Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights has a great website with information about immigrant women’s rights, with a focus on immigrant women in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Their companion site, the Stop Violence Against Women website, contains information and advocacy tools for fighting violence against women worldwide.

Volunteer for one of these candidates, or your local woman candidate or other pro-women’s rights, feminist, or pro-choice candidate. Candidates can always use phone-bankers and people to stuff envelopes, and they might be able to make use of your particular skills. If you don’t have time to volunteer, donate to a candidate’s campaign or to EMILY’s List or support civic participation with the League of Women Voters.
