The Carleton College softball team hosted the University of St. Thomas on Friday afternoon. After struggling to get the bats going in dropping the opener, 3-0, the Knights gave the nationally-ranked Tommies all they could handle in game two before ultimately falling, 8-6 in extra innings.

After watching a three-run lead evaporate in the final inning of a 9-8, game one loss, the Carleton College baseball team was able to shake off the setback and rebound for a 4-3 triumph in game two. Sophomore Hayden Tsutsui hit two home runs on the day and collected five RBI.

The Carleton College softball team snapped its losing streak with a pair of victories over cross-town rival St. Olaf College, topping the Oles, 1-0 and 9-2. Sophomore Keelin Davis twirled a gem in game one, while senior Jenny Ramey became the team’s all-time home run leader in a big game with the bat during the nightcap.

Carleton jumped four spots to 17th in the latest Golf World/WGCA Division III poll. The Knights’ move is the largest in this week’s poll and comes on the heels of Carleton’s impressive T4th finish at the Washington University (St. Louis) Spring Invitational. Carleton’s spring team average of 317.25 is more than seven shots lower than its fall average.

Despite sending only a small contingent across town to compete at the Manitou Classic, the Carleton College women’s track and field claimed victories in five events at the unscored meet hosted by St. Olaf and attended by a half-dozen schools.

The Carleton College men’s tennis team defeated neighboring St. Olaf College, 6-3, in a hard-fought contest at the Bell Field Courts. With the result, the Knights clinched a spot in the six-team conference playoff to be held later this month.
