Hayden Tsutsui Selected to Another All-Region Squad

The post-season awards keep accumulating for first-year outfielder Hayden Tsutsui. On Wednesday, it was announced that he picked up another All-Midwest Region award, this time receiving recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Two days after Hayden Tsutsui was named to the 2013 D3baseball.com All-Midwest Region First Team and picked up distinction as the region’s Rookie-of-the-Year, the outfielder received an even bigger honor in being selected as the 2013 D3baseball.com national Rookie-of-the-Year.

Hayden Tsutsui burst onto the stage this season as he batted .462—the sixth-highest figure among all NCAA players (Division I, II, and III)—and ranked among conference leaders in nearly all statistical categories. His breakout season resulted in the outfielder being selected as the MIAC Rookie-of-the-Year. He was also the only first-year voted to the 27-player All-MIAC squad.

Saint Mary’s Sweeps Knights in Season Finale

The season came to a close for the Carleton College baseball teams following a pair of losses to Saint Mary’s University. The Knights let a late lead slip away in a 6-4 game one setback, then watched a final-frame rally come up just short in dropping game two, 5-4. Seniors Ted Harmon, Henry Rownd, and Adam Zweber donned the Knights uniform for the final time.

Thaddaeus Gregory went the distance for the victory in game two as the Carleton College baseball team earned a split at Saint John’s University. The Knights’ pitching staff was roughed up in a 16-3 game one defeat, but Gregory pitched 7.0 strong innings as Carleton bounced back with a 9-4 triumph.

Johnson Pitches and Hits Knights to Split at Concordia

Behind the arm and bat of Kevin Johnson, the Carleton College baseball team salvaged a split at Concordia College. After the Cobbers ran away with game one, 14-1, the Knights answered with an 8-4 victory in the nightcap, a contest in which Johnson went the distance for the victory and contributed a 4-for-4, 3 RBI performance at the plate.

Stillerman Named to Academic All-District Team

Carleton College infielder David Stillerman was named to the Academic All-District Baseball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their performance both on the field and in the classroom. Stillerman is an junior Economics/Mathematics/Statistics major with a 3.82 GPA and ranks among the MIAC leaders with a .379 batting average and a .492 on-base percentage.

No. 2 St. Thomas Too Deep for Knights

The Carleton College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against national No. 2 University of St. Thomas. The games, decided by scores of 10-2 and 5-2, were shifted from Carleton to the Tommies’ home field due to wet weather.

Dsida, Rownd Propel Knights to Sweep of Bethel

Jeff Dsida set the tone today for the Carleton College baseball squad, homering to straightaway centerfield on the first pitch of the Knights’ first turn at bat. Carleton went on to sweep the Bethel University Royals by scores of 5-4 and 8-4 to pick up their first conference victories of the season. Pitching on only two days rest, senior Henry Rownd went the distance for the Knights in the first game, grabbing his third win of the season. Hayden Tsutsui led the Carleton offense, hitting a combined 4-for-6 on the day with three runs and an RBI.

First-year Hayden Tsutsui went 6-for-9 on the evening to raise his MIAC-leading batting average to .480 for the season, but the inability of the Knights’ pitching staff to avoid the big inning led to the Carleton College baseball team being swept, 9-3 and 11-8, in a twilight doubleheader against Hamline University.

Knights Still Seeking First Conference Win After Sweep by Augsburg

The Carleton College men’s baseball team couldn’t come through on the road against Augsburg College, dropping both ends of an afternoon doubleheader. Despite multiple RBI performances from Jeff Dsida, Kevin Johnson, and Cody Bohlman, the Knights watched the Auggies walk-off for a 3-2 victory in game one then erase a six-run deficit to take game two by a final tally of 10-8.
