Head Football Coach Kurt Ramler Announces Resignation

Carleton College assistant professor of physical education, athletics and recreation (PEAR) and head football coach Kurt Ramler has announced his resignation to pursue other opportunities. Ramler, who took over as the College’s 16th head football coach in February 2006, amassed a 22-38 mark during his tenure. He earned the MIAC’s coach of the year award after leading the Knights to a 7-3 mark in 2008, the team’s best record since 1992. The College will name an interim head coach in the coming days and undertake a national search for a permanent head coach at the completion of the 2012 season.

Andy Zweber tallied his first career touchdown on a 25-yard scamper early in the first quarter and added another on a four-yard rush late in the game, but this was the only scoring the Carleton College Knights could get, as they were defeated 47-14 by Saint John’s University.
Record-Breaking Game Garners Jon Lien Pair of National Honors

When you break a 48-year old school record—and do so in dramatic fashion—it’s bound to draw some national attention. That’s the case for Carleton College senior running back Jon Lien, who rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 23-17 overtime victory at Macalester. Already the recipient of the conference’s weekly offensive award, Lien was tabbed to the D3football.com Team-of-the-Week and selected as a Beyond Sports College Network athlete-of-the week.

Jon Lien Runs Away With MIAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

It's fitting that the winner of Saturday's non-conference rivalry game between Carleton College and Macalester College claimed "The Book of Knowledge" traveling trophy, because Knights' senior Jon Lien helped his team retain the prize while rewriting the record books in the process. Lien broke a 48-year-old Carleton school record for rushing yards in a game, he scored all three Knights' touchdowns—including the game-winner in overtime—and surpassed 2,000 rushing yards in his career. For his incredible performance, Lien has been named the MIAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
