Seniors Meeks Brucker and Charlie Gamble earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for Carleton as the men’s cross country team placed 10th at the NCAA Central Region race, the final race of the year for the Knights.

Knights Host Great Karhu Shoe Race

In the program’s final tuneup before next week’s regional race, the Carleton men’s cross country team hosted St. Olaf in the Great Karhu Shoe Race. While the Oles took top team honors, the Knights had several runners turn in solid performances including Colin Sinclair, who placed second overall.

Senior Charlie Gamble trimmed 45 seconds off his time from last year's race and led the Knights at the MIAC Championships by finishing ninth overall to earn All-Conference honors. In the team competition, Carleton placed seventh.

Gamble Leads Knights at Running of the Cows

The Carleton men’s cross country team concluded its Running Reunion with a strong performance at the Running of the Cows. Charlie Gamble finished third overall in leading the Knights to the team title. Carleton finished with 55 points, followed by Whitman College (66) and Augsburg (70) in the five-team field that ran through the Carleton Arb.

Carleton to Host Running Reunion on Oct. 17-18

On Oct. 17-18, the men’s & women’s cross country programs will host a Running Reunion in conjunction with the annual Running of the Cows cross country meet. This promises to be a special celebration of the last 50 years of running at Carleton. The Knights extend an invitation to all former Carleton track and field and cross-country athletes to meet the current teams and to reunite with their former teammates and coaches.

Davis Finishes Sixth to Lead Knights at UW-Eau Claire Open

Sophomore John Davis was the first Knight across the finishing line, recording a time of 25:35 at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open. As a team, Carleton finished 13th out of 19 squads.

Charlie Gamble finished 18th and John Davis was 21st as the Carleton men’s cross country finished 13th out of 31 teams at the 23rd annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Four Knights Race at St. Olaf Invite

The Knights raced only four runners in the St. Olaf Invitational cross country meet on Saturday, and thus did not qualify for a team score. Individually, however, Carleton’s runners were highly successful. Jon McMurry highlighted the day by establishing a personal record time.

Knights Open Season at Les Duke Invite

The Carleton men’s cross country opened its 2008 season at the 46th Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. The Knights placed 11th out of 26 teams. Sophomore John Davis was the first Carleton runner to finish, placing 17th out of 361 runners. Junior Charlie Gamble crossed the line 20th.

Carleton Alum Phillip Dunn '93 Completes Third Olympics

Carleton College alum Phillip Dunn ’93 competed in his third Olympic games on Thursday, finishing 39th in the 50km race walk in Beijing, China. He posted a finishing time of 4 hours, 8 minutes and 32 seconds. He previously participated in the Summer Olympics held in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004) where he finished 28th and 35th, respectively. Dunn, the lone American in the 61-man field, crossed the finish line with his arms raised, then waited to greet Augusto Cardoso of Portugal who finished another 28 seconds later. NBC's Olympic website states that video footage of the race will be re-shown with various other events on the USA Network during the 1-11 a.m. (CDT) time slot on Fri., Aug. 22.

Carleton Alum to Compete in 2008 Olympics TONIGHT

Carleton alum Philip Dunn ’93 will be competing in the 50 km Race Walk tonight (6:30 p.m. CDT) at the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China. NBC's Olympic website states that video footage of the race will be shown with various other events on the USA Network during the 1-7 a.m. (CDT) time slot on Fri., Aug. 22. Additionally, this NBC link appears to offer a live online feed during the race and some in-progress resuls. This will be Dunn’s third trip to the Olympics. He has competed in the race walk in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004 where he finished 28th and 35th, respectively.
