Preview: Knights Ready for MIAC Championships

The Carleton men’s track and field team will look to carry its strong showing at the conference indoor meet over to this year’s MIAC Outdoor Championships. When the Knights finished fifth indoors, the team established 18 personal bests. Carleton will need some outstanding performances once again to move into the upper half at the outdoor meet. Ballinger Leads Knights at Meet of the UnSaintly

Junior Tom Ballinger won the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the 110 hurdles at the Meet of the UnSaintly, a last chance to record qualifying marks for next week's MIAC Outdoor Championships.

Bechstein Finishes Fifth at MIAC Decathlon

Junior Kane Bechstein accumulated 5,577 points and placed fifth overall during the two-day competition at the MIAC Decathlon. He moved up four spots on day two, highlighted by strong performances in the pole vault and javelin throw. Bechstein record season's bests in eight out of the 10 events.

Knights Turn in Strong Showing at Rolex Classic

The Carleton Knights performed extremely well in their duel against St. Olaf in the Rolex Classic. While there was no declared overall winner of the meet, it didn’t stop several Knight performers from having great events. Many of those, like Chris Marshall, who won events also broke their personal records.

Sepe Wins 10K at Gina Relays, Knights Strong at Drake Relays

The members of Carleton College’s men’s track and field team are a bit spread out this weekend, but it hasn’t prevented them from enjoying success on the track. Senior Joe Sepe to victory in the 10,000-meter run at the 42nd annual Hillsdale College (Mich.) Gina Relays. He finished more than six seconds faster than his closest competition, a racer from Division I Central Michigan. Also on Friday, Knights’ entry in the 4x400-meter relay at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, placed fifth in its heat and 21st out of 37 entries in the college division.

Gamble and Ballinger Lead Knights at Macalester Twilight

The Carleton College men’s track and field team began a busy week of competition by sending several members of the squad to participate in the Macalester Twilight Invitational. Sophomore Charlie Gamble won the 5,000-meter run, while junior Tom Ballinger’s strong season continued with a victory in the 400-meter hurdles.

Ballinger Receives Weekly Honor

Carleton College junior Tom Ballinger was named the MIAC track athlete of the week. He won the 400m Hurdles at the Carleton Relays while recording an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Ballinger also placed fourth in the 110m Hurdles, anchored the second place 4x100m relay, and ran on the victorious 4x400m relay.

What a difference a year makes. At the 2007 Carleton Relays, the Knights track and field team scored only 25 points to place 13th in the team standings. Turn the calendar ahead one year, and the Carleton men placed fourth with an astounding 95.5 points, narrowly besting conference foes Bethel and St. Olaf. The meet included entrants from Division I and Division II teams as well.

Junior Tom Ballinger was a double-winner, reaching the line first in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash, as the Carleton College men’s track and field team competed at the Hamline Invitational.

Martinez Competes at SJU invitational

Senior Ryan Martinez finished sixth in the 1500-meter run at the Saint John’s Invitational on Saturday. He was the lone Carleton athlete participating in the meet and finished with a time of 4:09.57.
