Junior Emily Maland received All-MIAC honors following a strong season in which she led the Carleton College softball team in virtually every offensive category and was the team’s top pitcher.

Senior Rhemi Abrams-Fuller had three hits on the day, including her first home run of the season, but the Carleton College softball team lost twice to Macalester College, 6-1 and 12-4. Emily Maland belted her fifth homer of the year in game two.

The Carleton College softball team battled to the end but fell short, dropping a pair of games to cross-town foe, St. Olaf College. The Knights got three hits from rookie B.G. Green and two-run home run from junior Emily Maland but lost the opener 9-5. Game two saw Carleton pound out 13 hits, including a season-best three base knocks for sophomore Michael Johnson, but the Oles prevailed, 8-5.

Knights Fall Despite Maland's Two Home Runs

It was Senior Day at Bell Field, but it was a junior who stole the show for the Knights. Starting pitcher Emily Maland belted a pair of home runs and allowed only two earned runs over 7.0 innings, but the Carleton College softball team lost, 11-8, to the College of Saint Benedict. The second game of the doubleheader was halted due to rain after one-half inning.

The Carleton College softball team continued its busy final week of the regular season with a doubleheader at Augsburg College, falling 9-5 and 6-1. It was the Knights final road trip of the year. Starting pitcher Emily Maland went the distance in both games for Carleton.

Emily Maland’s first career home run was not enough as the Carleton College softball team was swept by Saint Mary’s University on Tuesday, 7-1 and 15-3. She tossed a complete game in the opener and drove the ball out to centerfield in the sixth inning for Carleton’s lone run in the contest.

The Carleton College softball team dropped its re-scheduled doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday by scores of 3-0 and 16-0. Game one pitcher Emily Maland turned in her best start of the season, yielding only three runs (two earned) on six hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Knights Drop Pair to Nationally Ranked St. Thomas

On paper, the matchup did not favor the Carleton College softball squad. Their opponent on Saturday, the University of St. Thomas is unbeaten in conference action and listed No. 5 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association rankings. The result was a not-so surprising Tommies sweep, 11-0 and 12-1. In true Carleton fashion, the Knights played with maximum effort throughout the doubleheader, not giving away at bats and playing solid defense.

The Carleton College softball team absorbed a doubleheader sweep against Bethel University on Thursday, falling 7-1 and 9-3. Starting pitchers Emily Maland and Elise Johnson turned in some of their best work of the year, but it was not enough against the Royals.

Defense Lets Down Knights

On a very windy afternoon, defensive lapses played a major factor as the Carleton softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Concordia College on Tuesday by scores of 8-3 and 9-0. Elise Johnson was the lone Knight to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 in the nightcap.

Thursday's Games Pushed Back

Poor weather has forced the postponement of today’s softball doubleheader against Saint Mary’s University. The contests have been rescheduled for Tue., April 22. The Knights are slated to be back on the field this weekend when they host Macalester College at 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by a Sunday double-dip versus Saint Benedict. The Carleton softball team will be busy over the next two weeks, playing nine doubleheaders over 15 days.
