Gamble Wraps Up Collegiate Career at NCAA Championships

Carleton College senior Charlie Gamble concluded his final season by placing 233rd out of 276 racers at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. He finished the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27:54.8.

The Carleton College women’s cross country team placed 11th out of 32 teams at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Leading the way for the Knights were sophomore Simone Childs-Walker and senior Laura Roach who both earned USTFCCCA All-American status by finishing 11th and 25th respectively during the competition.

Ricks Named Regional Coach of the Year, Four Tabbed to All-Region Team

Following Carleton College’s team victory at the NCAA Central Regional Championships last week, head coach Donna Ricks was named the USTFCCCA Division III Women’s Regional Coach of the Year. Four Knight harriers were selected to the All-Region team. Carleton will race at the 2009 NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The 2009-2010 Carleton College men’s basketball team returns seven players who saw significant playing time last year, including four starters at the end of the season. The Knights also welcome three talented first-year players as Carleton pursues a return to the MIAC playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. Carleton College kept things close for one half Saturday, but host Saint John's University pulled away in the second for a 41-14 victory at Clemens Stadium. Five seniors wrapped up their collegiate careers on the gridiron today for the Knights (3-7, 1-7 MIAC). Running back Phil Blue carried the ball 10 times for 48 yards and a touchdown in his final game in the maize and blue.

Knights Win Central Regional Race, Earn Return Trip to Nationals

The Carleton College women’s cross country team had two runners in the top five, and the Knights won the Central Regional competition. The victory also secures a return trip for the team to next week’s NCAA Championships. This is the second consecutive season and 12th time in program history, the Knights have advanced to the national meet as a team. Sophomore Simone Childs-Walker placed fourth, one spot in front of senior Laura Roach.

Game Day Preview: at Saint John's

Last year when the Knights and Johnnies met on the final Saturday of the regular season, they were playing for a MIAC championship. Saint John's will be doing so again, but it's been a vastly different year for Carleton (3-6, 1-6 MIAC). The Knights will look to snap a five-game losing streak and salvage a disappointing 2009 today, while the Johnnies (9-0, 7-0 MIAC) can clinch the out-right conference crown and complete an undefeated regular season with a win at home. Today's game also marks the final time five seniors will wear the maize and blue for Carleton. Defensive end Adam Hallbeck, running back Phil Blue, defensive end John Schlaefer, quarterback Spenser Williamson, and kicker Kyle Burkhardt will all be finishing their collegiate football careers this afternoon. Knights Nearly Sweep Hamline in Dual Meet

The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 208-41 victory over Hamline University in the final competition of the fall term. The Knights nearly swept the Pipers, earning first place in 14 of 16 events. Sophomore Griffin Williams was tabbed the Carleton’s swimmer-of-the-meet for his performances in the 100-yard backstroke, 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Knights Post Double Dual Wins OVer St. Kate's and Hamline

The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team won both halves of a double dual meet against Hamline University and host St. Catherine University. In total the Knights earned a dozen first-place finishes against the Wildcats and 14 top placements against Hamline. Senior Kiva Oken was recognized as the women's swimmer-of-the-meet for her strong swims in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, finishing third in both races.
