Freshman Duo Dazzles at Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic

The Carleton men’s swimming and diving team was strongly represented in Saturday’s Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic hosted by St. Olaf College. The team found plenty to cheer about thanks to the performances of freshmen Erik Klontz and Marmoru Kanazawa who combined to win three events. Additionally, Eric Brenner emerged as the victor in the 3-meter diving competition.

Alexander Sisters Lead Knights at Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic

Sisters Maggie and Kate Alexander led the Knights in their performance at the Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic. Maggie placed first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:44.43, while Kate conquered the competition in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.78. Kate’s closest competitor was first-year teammate Maddie Epping, who captured second place with a time of 2:19.26.

Niki Tomita notches her second hat trick over the last 10 days to propel the Carleton College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Macalester College in the finals of the MIAC Playoffs. With the win, the Knights clinch the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year.

Looking to win the MIAC championships as well as the regular season title, the Carleton’s men’s soccer team lost a thrilling MIAC championship game today 1-0 to Macalester College. The top-seeded Knights could not find the equalizer after Macalester’s Scott Petesch tapped one over the line in the 61st minute. The Knights certainly had their chances in the second half to put one in the net themselves, but were unable to convert on all opportunities.

The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team came up short against the University of St. Thomas in a dual meet on Friday. First-year Mamoru Kanazawa posted the Knights’ lone victories, winning the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. He also finshed second in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events and cruised to victory over the University of St. Thomas in the first dual meet of the season. The Knights won the first seven events of the meet, including a pool record performance in the meet-opening 400-yard medley relay and a new team mark in the 1000-yard freestyle.

In the annual battle between crosstown rivals, Carleton College senior Blake Hansen ran a season-best time of 27:41 to become the winner of the Great Karhu Shoe Race. The favored Ole harriers came out on top in the team competition, 22-38, as the was contested over a long 8,100-meter course on the edge of the St. Olaf campus.

Carleton College junior offensive lineman Will Taylor was named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team. Taylor has anchored the right guard position this year for the Knights, putting Carleton on pace for its top rushing season since 2005.

The Carleton College Student-Athlete Advisory Council announced its Knights of the Week for Oct. 26-Nov.1. The recipients were the Women's Cross Country team and Tyler Palin.
