Four Knights Named to National All-Academic List

Four members of the Carleton College women’s cross country team earned spots on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national All-Academic squad. Junior Rachael Klehm was joined on the list by seniors Taylor ffitch, Alison Smyth, and Simone Childs-Walker.

Knights Tie for 8th at NCAA Championships

Senior Alison Smyth placed 37th overall—missing All-America honors by just two spots—as the Carleton College women’s cross country squad tied for eighth place in the team competition at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Overall the Knights placed four racers among the top 100 finishers in a field of 277 runners and posted their best finish at nationals since 1991.

Smyth Third, Knights Second at NCAA Regional

Senior Alison Smyth finished third overall at the NCAA Central Region Championships, leading the Carleton College women's cross country team to a second-place finish and an automatic qualification to next weekend’s national meet. The Knights had four runners earn All-Region status.

In the eighth week of the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, the Knights rose in the rankings to No. 9. The Knights also captured the No. 1 spot in the Central Region.

Carleton Sweeps MIAC Awards

The 2011 MIAC Women’s Cross Country Awards were announced Thursday, with the Knights sweeping the individual honors after claiming the conference championship last Saturday. Senior standout Simone Childs-Walker was named MIAC Women’s Cross Country Most Valuable Athlete for her first-place finish at the MIAC Championships, while head coach Donna Ricks, was honored as MIAC Women’s Cross Country Coach-of-the-Year.

The Carleton Women's Cross Country squad likes to pack up when they run. At the 2011 MIAC Championships, they followed the same philosophy, except this time they extended it all the way across the finish line as a trio of Knights—seniors Simone Childs-Walker and Alison Smyth and junior Rachael Klehm—finished 1-2-3 to spark Carleton to its fifth conference crown. The Knights, ranked No. 23 in the latest USTFCCCA poll, placed five runners in the top 20 and earned the team title, besting cross-town rival No. 11 St. Olaf College.

Knights Poised to Recapture MIAC Title

The Carleton Women’s Cross Country team arrives at the 2011 MIAC championship with high expectations. After finishing third last year the team hopes to recapture the title it won in 2009. Carleton looks for leadership to a trio of senior runners, two of whom raced at the NCAA Championships last season. The Knights are currently ranked No. 15 in the nation and No. 2 in the Central Region.

Knights Remain Top 25 in the Nation

In the sixth week of the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, the Knight's fell eight spots in the rankings to No. 23. The Knights also dropped a spot in the regional rankings to No. 3.

Knights Split-Squads Finish 10th and 16th

The Carleton College women's cross country team ran in split-squad fashion on Saturday. The portion of the team that ran at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational finished 10th in the team competition, with senior Simone Childs-Walker first over the line for the Knights, placing fifth out of the total 395 runners as she finished the six-kilometer distance in 22:04.57. The rest of the group competed at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational. This unit, comprised primarily of underclassman, finished 16th among the 23 teams as the Knights were paced by Lindsay Turchan (Fy/Neenah, Wis./Neenah).

Knights Continue Rise to No. 15 in the Nation

The Knights continue to climb in the rankings in week five of the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll to No. 15. In the regional polls, Carleton remained in the No. 2 spot, behind St. Olaf.
