Knights Have Strong Start at ITA Regional

The Carleton College women’s tennis team sent three players to participate in this weekend’s Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional in St. Peter, Minn. First-years Kathryn Schmidt (Hopkins, Minn.) and Erin Gudul (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Doubles Draw. In singles play, Schmidt fell to top-seeded Jordan Hook of Wheaton College in the quarterfinals, while Gudul was knocked out in Saturday’s third round.

Knights Earn Academic All-Conference

The MIAC has announced its list of academic all-conference honorees for winter and spring sports, with 21 Carleton student-athletes earning distinction. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Additionally, student-athletes in basketball, baseball, softball and tennis must compete in half of their team’s contests, while those in swimming & diving and track & field must qualify for the conference finals.

Ottum and Leung Tabbed to All-MIAC Team

Carleton College senior Lisa Ottum earned All-MIAC honors in singles for the first time. Teammate Frances Leung earned all-conference honors for the second time in two seasons. The Knights were one of four programs to place at least two singles players on the All-MIAC team.

The Carleton College women’s tennis team saw its season draw to a close following a tough 5-4 loss to Macalester College in the quarterfinals of the 2008 MIAC Tennis Playoffs. Senior co-captain Lisa Ottum posted victories in both singles and doubles, but the Knights could not rally from behind.

The Carleton College women's team went into Monday's regular-season finale against the Hamline University needing a win to secure the sixth seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs. The Knights had to contend not only with the Pipers but also with the prospect of rain halting this important match as they posted a 7-2 triumph.

The Carleton College and Saint Benedict tennis teams pushed each other to the limit, but it was the host Blazers that prevailed, 5-4, on Friday. The competition featured five of the six singles matches needing a third-set super tiebreaker. Additionally, Carleton sophomores Frances Leung and Hannah Goldberg rallied for a tie-break upset victory at first doubles. Leung also won her singles match.

Knights Not Sharp Enough in Singles, Lose Match Before Doubles Play Begins

The women's tennis team finally returned to outdoor play 18 days after Spring Break only to be stopped by the wind-efficient Scots of Macalester. The women uncharacteristically began the dual with singles play. Macalester certainly made the best of the wind and home-court advantage, winning the first five singles matches off the court en route to capturing the 6-3 victory.

Gophers Sweep Knights

The Carleton College women’s tennis team faced an opponent for the first time in over two weeks and lost, 7-0, to the University of Minnesota. The Knights won a total of five games during the afternoon of action against Division I competition.

Macalester Match Rescheduled Due to Weather

Weather conditions not at all conducive to quality tennis have postponed today’s women’s tennis match against Macalester College. The event, which was to be the Knights' first competition since returning from their Spring Break trip, was rescheduled for Mon., April 14 at 5 p.m. The Carleton squad will have a busy couple of days coming up as they are scheduled to play at Saint Benedict on Saturday, against the University of Minnesota on Sunday before Monday’s makeup date.

The Carleton College women’s tennis team finished up its Spring Break trip by facing the nationally ranked squad from the University of Chicago. The Knights got their two points from Hannah Clemons, who won her singles match and paired with Sarah Wehrly for another win at third doubles.
