Senior Katherine Wingert and a strong contingent of middle-distance runners lead Carleton into the 2008 MIAC Outdoor Championships. The Knights, who finished sixth at the conference indoor championships in March, will need spectacular performances up and down the lineup if they want to repeat last year’s third-place showing in the outdoor season. The Carleton women’s track and field team had several competitors crack the top 10 at the Tommie Twilight meet, including second-place finishes by senior Katherine Wingert in the 1500-meter run and by first-year Kelly Lovett in the javelin.

Campbell Wins 10,000-Meter Race at Manitou Classic

Junior Karen Campbell recorded nearly an eight-second victory in the 10,000-meter run at the Manitou Classic, held on the campus of St. Olaf College. She was the lone event winner for Carleton at the crowded meet.

Wingert Records Provisional NCAA Qualifying Time as Knights Particpate in Hamline Invitational

The Carleton College women’s track team opened the Midwest portion of its outdoor season with several solid performances at the Hamline University Invitational. Senior Katherine Wingert won the 1500-meter run with a provisional NCAA qualifying mark of 4:38.78. Junior Karen Campbell ran her best performance of the season finishing second in the 5000-meter race.

Knights Compete at Point Loma Invitational

On a beautiful day with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, several members of the Carleton College women’s track and field team participated in the annual Point Loma Nazarene University Track and Field Invitational. Nearly 300 athletes from 16 schools all across the country competed at the meet.
Katherine Wingert was dominant in the winning the 800-meter run, and Irene Koplinka-Loehr (So./Ithaca, N.Y.) won the 3000-meter steeplechase. Brasil Perez-Lukes had a very busy day with top 10 finishes in five events.

Christian Sixth at Point Loma Heptathlon

Carleton College senior Molly Christian finished sixth in the heptathlon at the Point Loma Nazarene University Invite. She finished with 4,170 points, only eight behind the fifth-place finisher. Christian’s best events were a second-place finish in the 200 dash and third-place result in both the 100 hurdles and long jump.

Knights Finish Sixth at MIAC Indoors

Senior Heather Hoecker was the Knights’ lone individual winner at the 2008 MIAC Indoor Championships, prevailing in the 5000-meter run in 18:24.25 on Friday. On Saturday, Carleton’s distance runners performed well again, and the Knights finished sixth in the team competition with 51.5 points. St. Thomas ran away from the pack for its 21st indoor title.

Knights Ready to Go the Distance at MIAC Indoor Championships

The Knights take part in the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Collegeville, Minn. Carleton finished third at last year’s conference meet and will lean on its distance and middle-distance runners to remain among the top teams at this year’s championships. Twice in competitions this winter the Knights swept the distance events. The weekend kicks off with the MIAC Pentathalon on Thursday and Friday, followed by the regular meet on Friday and Saturday.

Knights Compete at Pre-MIAC Meet

The Carleton College women’s track and field team hosted the Pre-MIAC meet and continues to have its performers peaking in time for the upcoming conference meet. During the 800-meter run, Katherine Wingert set a new personal best with her winning time of 2:16.97. In the 1000-meter race, Heather Hoecker and Lauren Milne both set new personal standards in finishing first and second respectively.
