Knights soar past Falcons for fifth straight win

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — First-years Caitlin Shea (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) and Caroline Greenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) combined for the victory at third doubles, and both also won during singles play as the Carleton College women’s tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep of Concordia University Wisconsin.

The Knights (10-1 overall) dropped only three games total in doubles and just 10 games in picking up straight-set triumphs in all six single matches en route to their fifth consecutive triumph.

Shea and Greenberg registered 8-0 result in doubles and upon moving to singles action found the Falcons (10-7) unable to put up much resistance. The rookie duo posted wins of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Those results sealed the team victory for the Knights.

Greenberg and Shea are now a combined 10-0 between singles and doubles in 2014. Julia Krumholz (So./Hingham, Mass./Hingham) also remains undefeated this year, improving to 5-0 in 2014 following her 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles, the closest score of the morning.

The Knights play their final match of the spring trip when they face national No. 10 DePauw University on Thursday, March 27.
