ST. PAUL, Minn. — Carleton College's Kao Sutton (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools) has had an outstanding senior year, and turned in another career performance over the weekend at Hamline's Meet of the UnSaintly. The Knights senior shattered the school record in the discus with a performance that ranks No. 2 nationally, and she was the meet's top Division III performer in the shot put as well. For her performance, Sutton was named the MIAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week for the second week in a row, and third time this spring.
Sutton's standout discus throw traveled 153-3 (46.71 meters) to help her finish second at the meet and break another Knights' school record. She took down the previous record of 43.86 meters, which was set in 1996, and her throw ranks No. 2 in Division III and first in the MIAC by more than eight feet. She also finished third in the shot, and first among Division III student-athletes, with a throw of 44-5.25 (13.54 meters).
This weekend, Sutton and her Carleton teammates will head across town to compete for the conference title at the 2014 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The conference meet will be hosted by St. Olaf College on Friday and Saturday, with Friday's action starting at 1 p.m. and Saturday's schedule to begin at noon.
