MIAC Academic All-Conference Release

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its list of academic all-conference honorees for winter and spring sports, with 26 Carleton student-athletes earning distinction. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Additionally, student-athletes in basketball, hockey, baseball, softball and tennis must compete in 50 percent of their team’s varsity regular-season contests to be eligible. Swimming and diving student-athletes must qualify for the conference finals while track and field participants must earn honorable mention status in an individual event or place in the top three as a relay team at the MIAC Championships to earn the honor.

The honorees for fall sports were announced earlier this year, and three Carleton student-athletes earned academic all-conference in multiple sports. Simone Childs-Walker (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) received distinction in three seasons: women’s cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. Kelly Lovett (Sr., Portland, Ore.) and Kyla Walter (Sr., Aspen, Colo.) both earned academic all-conference honors in volleyball, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. For the 2010-2011 academic year, 49 Carleton student-athletes in total received recognition for their outstanding achievements in both academics and athletics.
