NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Simone Childs-Walker (Sr./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) will once again represent Carleton College at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. She is currently seeded 10th in the 5,000-meter run, a distance at which she is a three time All-American (2009, 2010, 2011) at the indoor national meet. The race is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. on Saturday as part of the two-day competition held this year at Grinnell College.
Childs-Walker has now qualified for the national championship 11 times in 11 chances—four times for both cross country and indoor track, and three more times for outdoor track with one additional opportunity coming up in May.
She has earned All-America status a total of 10 times in her career and nearly had company this weekend as the Carleton distance medley relay missed the 10-team cut by just 0.41 seconds.
Grinnell College introduced a Sports Journalism class in January, and students were assigned to write feature stories on athletes expected to compete in the NCAA Championships. Childs-Walker in one of the featured student-athletes. The entire article can be read here.
