NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Coming off the MIAC regular and postseason championships and a trip to the NCAA Championships, the Carleton College women’s tennis program looks to keep the momentum going forward as the Knights will welcome a recruiting class this fall that was ranked No. 16 in the Tennis Recruiting Network’s top-25 NCAA Division III recruiting classes for 2012.

Heading up this year’s recruiting class are Kayla Becich and Claire Spencer, both ranked as 3-star recruits by Tennis Recruiting Network.

As a junior at North Allegheny High School, Becich was a runner-up in the PIAA Class AAA doubles tournament this season. Also an accomplished singles player, she ranks among the top 10 graduating seniors in Pennsylvania and the top 250 players nationally. Spencer graduated from Menchville High School and is ranked among the top 10 graduating seniors in Virginia and previously ranked among the top 250 players in the country.

The Knights No. 16-ranked incoming class also includes Julia Krumholz from Hingham (Mass.) High School; Libby Ferris of St. Louis, Mo.; and Joyce Yu from Chinese Taipei.

Carleton is the only Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) program found on this year’s list, which is based on commitments reported on or before May 21, 2012.

Two years ago, the Knights welcomed the nation’s No. 17 recruiting class with Anne Lombardi ’14 (Hinsdale, Ill.), Molly Hemes ’14 (Green Bay, Wis./Preble), and Katherine Greenberg ’14 (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) headlining the group. This past season that trio held down three spots in the singles lineup and went a combined 49-16 during dual matches.
